What’s the “Fancy” Term For Your “Regular” Job

Today is “Administrative Professionals Day” and you BETTER NOT call it “Secretaries’ Day” or you’ll be dragged out of the office and beaten a shoe. I’m

not certain what the problem with the word “secretary” is.  Here’s the definition:

Secretary:  a person whose work consists of supporting management, including executives, using a variety of project management, communication, or organizational skills.

I’m no genius – but that sounds a lot like what an administrative professional might do.

I must admit, I’m guilty of giving my job a snappier title.  Every time I meet someone, when they find out I do a radio show, they immediately say, “You’re a DJ!”  To which I reply, “I’m an On-Air Personality.”

In my defense when I hear DJ (aka Disk Jockey) I think of someone on the ones & twos at a festival or  spinning the steel at a club.  But here’s the definition:

Disk Jockey:  a person who introduces and plays recorded popular music, especially on radio or at a disco.

So maybe I am a disc jockey.  But that means that Media Distribution Officers are just Paperboys.  Education Center Nourishment Consultants are Lunch Ladies.  And Sanitary Waste Removal Technicians are Garbage collectors.

What is the super fancy long term do you use to describe YOUR job?

Please share.
