Should Eight Year Olds Be Watching “R” Rated Movies

We were hanging with some friends last night and while we were watching the Oscars – their kids were in the other room watching a movie.  The featured attraction…IT.  Those kids are EIGHT AND ELEVEN!

When I told the parents their kids were watching IT, their mother replied, “It’s fine, the kids in the movie are only seven year olds.”

Now I’m not a parent – but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t let my 8 year old watch a horror movie about a killer clown that eats children.  My parents FORBID me to see Beverly Hills Cop…and I WAS 13 – and Eddie Murphy didn’t eat any kids!

Perhaps the Motion Picture Association of America’s rating system is viewed more as a guideline than a rule.   Again, I’m not a parent – so who am I to judge.

What “R” rated movie did your parents refuse to let you watch when you were a kid?  Lookin’ back – would you let YOUR kids watch it?
