Do Non Smokers Deserve More Vacation Days?

As I walked up to the studio today – I was astonished to see the smokers standing in the rain puffing away.  Those die hards were braving the elements to get that

nicotine fix.  Which got me thinking about smoke breaks and how they must result in a loss productivity in the work place.  Stopping what you’re doing – trekking down 2 floors out the doors to the trash can/ash tray…that time away from the job adds up.

Low and behold in USA Today there was an article that stated “The average smoker wastes around 6 full days a year on work smoke breaks”.

SIX DAYS!

Which is fine – you gotta have a smoke – we get that.  But what about the rest of us?  Don’t we deserve compensated?  While you’re out smoking – us non-smokers are still grinding it out.  We non-smokers would be happy with a extra vacation day or two.

Sound ridiculous?  Well, one company giving extra vacation days a try is Japan’s Piala. The marketing company in Tokyo recently added six extra vacation days for its non-smoking employees after a worker complained about smoking breaks hurting productivity.
