‘Mom’ & ‘Dad’ are going out of style?

Do you call her MOM?

Do you call him DAD?

I always thought it was disrespectful to use Mom and Dad’s real names.

I cringe at the idea of my 7 year-old-self calling out for Rhonda, or Roy.

They will always be MOM and DAD to me!

Apparently some trendy moms are now TELLING their kids not to call them “mom.”

They’re afraid it makes them sound OLD.

The moms want their relationship with their kids to feel more like FRIENDS, and going by their first name helps that.

Most Psychotherapist are crystal clear: forbidding your child to call you Mom blurs important boundaries and is likely to cause problems.

‘While it can seem incredibly cool — because we all want to be friends with our children — at some point you have to put your foot down and be a mum.

‘Allowing your child to call you by your first name says loud and clear: “We’re the same!” — and we aren’t.’

However, an increasing number of modern mothers are uncomfortable with being in any way disciplinarian with their children. Keen instead to be seen as a friend, and reluctant to impose any boundaries, they claim being called Mom would place their relationship with their child on an uneasy footing.
