Why Dogs Love The Wind In Their Face

I hate wind. Don’t mind a light breeze but wind leads to chapped lips, the cap being blown off of my head and someone else’s leaves in my pool. Dogs LOVE the wind in their face. Take my dog Lola… as you can see from the photo above she can’t wait to stick her head out of the window of my SUV. Why? Some might say that it’s because they itch under all of that hair but I have a full goatee and I don’t want any wind on it. If I have an itch I can scratch it. Besides, wouldn’t all that wind tangle their fur if they are a longer haired dog like mine?

According to an article on Mentalfloss.com, “as air moves over the olfactory membrane, odor molecules settle on the scent receptors and get recognized. The more air there is flowing over the membrane, the more scents the dogs can detect. So when a dog sticks its head out the window, it’s like pigging out at a hi-definition all-you-can-smell scent buffet.”

Maybe this way they’re able to sniff other dogs butts long distance.
