So, a little fun fact something something about me, I am a sleeper.
Like a hardcore, no I can’t come over, I need to sleep, kind of sleeper. I need more sleep than most people. I’m not some kind of weird anomaly, freak show, I just need more than average.
I haven’t always been this way, though. I can remember being a little nugget and waiting up for my dad to get home from the police department. He would often work rotating shifts, extra hours, etc to advance his career and put food on the table. Bottom line, dad worked his tail off to make a good life for me, but somewhere along the way, a switch was flipped. My dad thinks it was around middle school. Good luck waking me up!
My parents have all agreed, they NEVER had trouble getting me to bed at night. My dad said you could cook an egg to my sleeping schedule. He knew between 8:30pm and 9pm I would be falling asleep on the couch while everyone else was watching tv or hanging out.
I recently read a study that claimed that the need for more sleep is simply genetic, which makes sense, because my dad is also a hearty sleeper. He and I both can sleep just about anywhere, anytime. My mom and step mom on the other hand, barely need any at all. How!? Clearly, I am my father’s daughter!
For me, sleeping just makes me feel better. If I’m sick, I sleep. If I’m upset, I sleep. If I’m excited, I sleep. Its my body’s way of dealing with those kinds of things. Last night, for example, I went to bed at 6:30pm and didn’t wake up until it was time to go to work at 3:30am. I just had a really busy day, filled with lots of adult-ey things and my body needed to recuperate. I woke up this morning and felt like a brand new woman. It was great!!
The same study said that those of us who get lots of sleep are ACTUALLY more “together” than our counter parts, the non sleepers. We are more organized, less cranky, and overall, just more positive.
So there ya have it!
Are you a sleeper? Are you a morning person or a night owl?
