…Pez dispensers, fake food…and sand (??). It’s the National Toy Hall of Fame!

Yes, the National Toy Hall of Fame has just released its newest list of nominees…and one of them is SAND!

And this isn’t the first time they’ve made a “generic” pick like that.  The STICK made it into the Hall in 2008. The BALL got in in 2009.  And the CARDBOARD BOX was inducted back in 2005.

Anyhow, the 12 toys nominated this year are sand, paper airplanes, Matchbox cars, My Little Pony, the board games “Risk” and “Clue”, the Wiffle ball, the Magic 8 Ball, PEZ dispensers, fake food, Transformers, and Uno cards.

Only two or three toys get inducted each year, and last year’s picks were Dungeons and Dragons, Fisher Price Little People, and the swing.  “Clue”, Transformers and Uno were also nominated last year, but didn’t get in.

They’ll announce this year’s Hall of Fame class on November 9th.

[Editor’s note: I’m going with paper airplanes, Matchbox cars, and the Wiffle ball.  But I don’t consider board games to be toys, and the Magic 8 Ball is the work of the Devil.  And sand?  Well, all I do is get my golf balls trapped in it…and my cat says it’s not a toy, it’s a toilet.]
