Show Us Your Implements!

Maybe I’m a little goofy, but I have a fascination with farm implements. I know, right? I’m not a farmer, but I’d love to know more about them. Like the one pictured here. What the heck! It looks like an Edward Scissorhands implement with those rotating teeth designed for either post-harvest stuff removal or riot control. There’s harvesters built for specific crops. There are different harvesters for tomatoes, beans, corn, and so on. I always wondered about the different configurations of tractors with different tire sizes and spacing for the crop rows. And who knows what a hay tedder is? A tedder allows the hay to dry better resulting in improved aroma and color. I know because I googled it lol. And I know a little more about harvesting corn because I googled that too. I wondered how farmers separate the corn from the stalk. Well, a corn harvester strips the stalks about one foot from the ground shooting the stalks through the header to the ground. The corn is stripped from its stalk and then moves through the header to the intake conveyor belt. Pretty cool, huh?

We live in the richest farmland in the country and provide food to millions all over the world. So show us your implements and tell us how they work. And thank you for what you do!  -Scott Simon
