Yes, seems one of the nation’s largest cannabis companies has just bought an entire Southern California desert town.
That’s right, American Green Inc. has announced now that it’s buying all 80 acres of Nipton, in the Mojave Desert near the Nevada border–which includes its Old West-style hotel, a handful of houses, and RV park and a coffee shop–and it plans to transform the town into what it calls “an energy-independent, cannabis-friendly hospitality destination”.
The town’s current owner, Roxanne Lang, says the sale is still in escrow, but confirmed that American Green is the buyer. And while there’s no word on the price, last year it was listed at 5 million dollars.
(Of course, the question now is: Will the new owners rename the town? The name Weed already belongs to an old mill town in Northern California. And Grass Valley is taken, too. But (and I personally don’t know much about the subject) maybe they can still use Potville, Bluntville, Jointown, Reefer City, Hippy Lettuce Landing, Doobie Downs, Ganja Grove, Mary Jane Junction, or Wacky Tobackytown.)
